By: ARCH Cutting Tools

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. - July 30, 2019 - PRLog -- ARCH Cutting Tools faces the same talent shortage as the cutting tool industry overall, but is meeting the challenge with an aggressive workforce development strategy aimed at Millennials and Gen Z. Partnering with Delta College, ARCH Cutting Tools hosted an Introduction to Machine Tools Forum at its Flushing, Michigan facility in June, for students interested in careers as machinists.

ARCH Cutting Tools is building an organization-wide training/apprenticeship program, based on practices that have been in operation for years. The pilot in Flushing will be duplicated at other ARCH Cutting Tools communities throughout the U.S. in the coming months.

Jeff Cederstrom, President – ARCH Cutting Tools, a Delta College alumnus opened the event. "To build tomorrow's workforce, you have to be willing to provide the solution to today's talent shortage," he said, explaining the ARCH Cutting Tools commitment to training and education.

The Flushing facility is home to Ultra-Dex, an ARCH Cutting Tools business unit and Beamer Laser Marking Systems.

The Ultra-Dex portion of the forum was hosted by Gregg Bishop, General Manager – Ultra-Dex, who explained the skills that are critical in today's machining environment. The Beamer Laser Marking System portion of the forum, hosted by Allen Warren, Engineering Manager – Beamer Laser Systems, provided perspective on manufacturing fiber laser marking machines. The students experienced demonstrations and had opportunities to question the experts.

What is ARCH Cutting Tools looking for? The "Purple Squirrel." The ideal young machinist with natural ability, an eagerness to learn, and an eye on the future of the industry. Cederstrom and Terry Morse, Associate Professor – Business and Technology at Delta College discussed ways to work together and share news of opportunities for CNC Machinists and Programmers.

ARCH Cutting Tools believes that the resurgence of American manufacturing requires a renaissance of precision machining, supported by evolved and highly collaborative partnerships. It is leading this renaissance through continuous improvements in engineered solutions. The company's leadership drives these principles by enabling and supporting a culture of teamwork and personal growth.
