Not just Prince Edward Island, the entire Maritime region saw a phenomenal growth in population, after the provincial governments introduced concerted efforts to increase immigration to their provinces. The province of Nova Scotia has shown an average population growth rate of nearly one per cent for the same period under consideration, making it the fastest growth in 4 decades. While New Brunswick saw an average growth of nearly half a percentage point per year, the highest, the province averaged an annual growth rate of 0.5 per cent, which was its highest since the early 1990s.
