Actor Sergio Delavicci Visits I.S. 303 As Principal For A Day
By: The Chi Group
The program is designed to inspire students both past and present to not only give back but have an opportunity to make a difference by sharing challenges they're facing and finding solutions collectively. Delavicci took on the full duties of being a guest principal by speaking to students, teachers, visiting classrooms and sharing inspiration on how future generations can live a better life.
During his visit, Sergio granted an exclusive interview to the school's student-run newspaper supported through the News Literacy Program, which teaches students how to write accurate news stories. The students had an opportunity to ask Sergio about his life, share personal stories about his journey which consisted of success and failure. Delavicci encouraged the students to not be afraid to fail as long as they try. He explained, "that trying and failing is not failure it's just an unsuccessful attempt. Failing is not doing anything at all."
The facilitators of the day Brett Dobin and Mario Caggiano got a chance to talk to Delavicci about the challenges and changes being made in the NYC school system and how they can better prepare students for the future. As a humanitarian and motivational speaker, Delavicci is a tremendous advocate for educating youth and utilizes all his platforms as a proponent to not only inspire but give students hope.
