The McKenzie Recognized as First Fitwel® Multifamily Development in Texas

DALLAS - March 27, 2019 - PRLog -- The McKenzie, a luxury high-rise apartment community developed by StreetLights Residential was recently recognized as the first certified Fitwel® multifamily development in Texas according to the Center for Active Design. The McKenzie has been recognized for its focus on sustainability with an emphasis on health and wellness. StreetLights is known for its boutique hotel-inspired communities that deliver a long-lasting positive impact on the neighborhood, and this certification demonstrates StreetLights' commitment to prioritizing wellness within the design, development and operation of one of its newest projects.

Fitwel is providing a new standard for the building industry and supports widespread adoption of health-promoting strategies in commercial real estate. This comes at a time when health has become increasingly important to building owners and developers, in response to the growing demand from tenants. The McKenzie was named a Fitwel-certified space due to its location, building access, outdoor spaces, indoor environment, dwellings, shared spaces and more.

StreetLights and partner Tricon Capital Group Inc. recently completed The McKenzie, a 22-story residential high-rise with 183 luxury apartment homes in the growing Knox/Henderson neighborhood. The community places a focus on wellness by providing a bike share station, designated refrigerated area for fresh and frozen food delivery, safe and accessible street infrastructure for pedestrians, a smoke free environment, and accessible outdoor living spaces. The McKenzie has direct access to The Katy Trail, a 3.5-mile jogging trail that runs through the Uptown & Victory Park neighborhoods. The McKenzie features units with a focus on improved quality of air, water, light and sleep including: enhanced ventilations practices, Lutron smart lighting, blackout shades, windows designed to minimize exterior noise levels, and a balcony in every residence, among other features built to support each resident's lifestyle.

The rentable homes also include chef's kitchens with culinary-minded details including designer gas cooktops, built-in wine refrigerators and custom detailed cabinetry. Spacious walk-in showers and soaking tubs along with customizable closets are among some of the additional features within the private residential units. Additional amenities include a resident bar, garden room with exterior private garden, and an elevated pool deck accompanied by cabanas, outdoor dining, grilling and fire features. The McKenzie provides a supper club area with kitchen and dining as well as a boutique fitness area adjacent to an outdoor fitness terrace. Residents also enjoy valet, concierge and a 24-hour doorman.

StreetLights worked with Looney Ricks Kiss Architects for architecture. Linda Tycher & Associates served as the landscape architect and Waldrop + Nichols Studio was the interior designer.
