Ahoy Mateys! Pirates with plates are on the horizon
Pirates, mermaids and sharks are planned as part of a culinary invasion of Reiter Park at the inaugural Longwood Pirate Seafood Festival.
Special event coordinator Janet Gamache says, "We want this inaugural event to really pop so we're pulling out all the stops to make the event fun and memorable."
Gamache says that the event name is true to what you can expect. "We have several pirate krewes planning to attend in full pirate gear as well as mermaids and we will even have a pirate ship for the kids to climb."
The new amphitheater in the center of the park will feature an eclectic line up of scheduled entertainers A Tribe Band, Rusty Cutlass Pirate Band, Tahiti Tamure, Salas of the Seas and then end with reggae band THC.
A large Free kid zone will include bounce houses, water balls and even a mechanical SHARK Ride that adults can try. Gamache says, "We are pleased to offer the kid zone activities and entertainment at no cost to allow families from all income levels to come out, enjoy Longwood's Reiter Park and make great memories."
Besides a great assortment of fresh seafood ranging from Peruvian shrimp to crab cakes and fish tacos, local restaurants like Something Fishy will highlight their menu items and Victorio's of Longwood will shuck up fresh oysters during the day.
There will be food available for land lubbers too including roasted corn, sausages and pizza. Beer and wine can be purchased and rum samples will be offered by Code Rum.
Ample parking is free at the adjacent Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital and handicap parking will be available in the event area.
