RONKONKOMA, N.Y. - Oct. 4, 2018 - PRLog -- UltraFlex - provider of the most advanced digitally controlled induction heating solutions in the industry - has recently published a showcase of how induction heating can be used for debrazing purposes. Debrazing allows the components to be separated for repair or reuse, saving time and costs along the way.

In this showcase, carbides 1.125" (28.5mm) long, with 0.75" (19.05mm) outside diameter had to be debrazed from a large magnetic steel drill head. The head had 8" outside diameter and was 4" (203.2mm OD x 101.6mm) thick, shaft was 11" (279.4mm) long, with 2" (50.8mm) to 5" (127mm) outside diameter. The carbides had dome shaped top attached to the head and had recessed approx. 0.8" (20.3mm) into the head.

Before the debrazing process was started, the part had to be fixtured with carbides fading down. It was then heated to 1500°F+ (815°C+), maintaining this temperature to allow the brazing alloy to start dripping out. The alloy started flowing at the outer carbides in 50 seconds, while for the center and inner carbides it took 1 minute and 40 seconds for the solder alloy to flow. Using external shock and a set of pliers the carbides were then successfully taken out of the steel head.

This debrazing showcase was done using UltraFlex proprietary 25-35 kW induction heating equipment from the UltraHeat M series, supplying power of up to 36.39 kW throughout the entire process. Induction heating generates no flame and hence no specific conditions were required to set up the showcase.

This UltraFlex demonstration proved the ease with which the induction-based debrazing of manufacturing parts can be accomplished and further optimized, with the added benefit of time and energy efficiency.
