Kent State College of Business Administration Welcomes New Faculty Members

KENT, Ohio - Sept. 28, 2018 - PRLog -- KENT, Ohio – The Kent State College of Business Administration welcomes three new faculty members at the start of the 2018-2019 academic year., Meng-Hua Hsieh, Ph.D., Kun (Carl) Liu, Ph.D. and William Billik, Ph.D. join the College.

"We are pleased to welcome three new full-time Kent campus faculty members to the Kent State College of Business Administration," said College of Business Administration Dean Deborah F. Spake, Ph.D. "Each of these faculty members offer extensive expertise in his or her respective disciplines and will advance research and student learning."

Hsieh joins the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship as assistant professor. She previously served as assistant professor of marketing at Pennsylvania State University. Her research examines how consumers' motivations influence their health decision-making and responses to marketing communications. Her research seeks to make a beneficial difference in the lives of consumers and has implications for policy makers and direct-to-consumer advertisers.

Hsieh earned a Ph.D. in marketing from University of Washington's Foster School of Business, a Master of Science degree in integrated marketing communications from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and literature from National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan.

"Since I first visited the beautiful Kent campus, I noticed the collaborative nature of the University," Hsieh said. "I am honored to be part of the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship which focuses on productive research, quality teaching and Ph.D. research mentorship. I am excited and proud to be part of the Kent State family."

Liu joins the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship as an assistant professor. He previously served as assistant professor of entrepreneurship and strategy at Old Dominion University. His research revolves around value creation and value capture in the context of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Liu earned a Ph.D. in strategic management from the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China.

"I was attracted to Kent State due to the University's growth momentum, friendly colleagues, strong commitment to entrepreneurship (the area of research and teaching I am passionate about) and a community of bright students," Liu said.

Billik joins the Department of Finance as an assistant professor. He previously worked as a consultant and trustee for West Creek Conservancy and an attorney for Jeffrey Freedman, Attorneys at Law. His research focuses on the interaction between institutional and activist investors and its impact on corporate governance.

"I was born and raised in northeast Ohio, and my family has lived in the area for over 100 years," Billik said. "Kent State University has always been an important contributor to the community; providing educational opportunities, expanding the culture and contributing to the quality of life. I am grateful to now help continue that tradition."
