Smiles for the Aging: Uplifting Aging Adults through Artistic Expression

MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Sept. 28, 2018 - PRLog -- Art 4 New York uses music, theatre, dance, and visual arts to bring smiles to NYC nursing home residents. Since 2016, we've performed mini musicals entitled "Pocket Broadway," comedy skits, piano concerts, trivia contests, poetry readings, dance-alongs, and sit and paints at Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. A4NY is special because we do more than just entertain, we build a creative community that is multi-generational and reflects the cultural diversity of New York City.

Within two years, Art 4 New York has received a grant from Broadway Cares, sponsorship from Krispy Kreme Donuts and been given the opportunity to expand to Harlem in January of 2019. We invite you to our anniversary program on Sunday, September 30th at 4 PM. It will feature the nursing home residents we've come to know and love, dancers, singers, musicians, artists and everyday humans of New York.

About Art 4 New York
The organization was founded by Angelica Gregory, who was inspired to create A4NY after her grandmother, Mary, died from Alzheimer's disease in 2016. To deal with the grief of losing her grandmother, and to repay her for everything she did, Angelica began volunteering at Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. While there, she attended a reading group, held after each worship service. Suddenly, an idea came to her: maybe other residents at the nursing home would love hearing sonnets as much as her grandma. Well, it turns out they did! After reaching out to friends, colleagues, and friendly faces she met on the subway, A4NY was born. She worked with the director of NYC Business Solutions to learn how to create a business plan which was sent to O'Melveny and Myers law firm. O'Melveny offered their services pro-bono to help Art 4 New York become a 501-C3 Non-Profit Organization.
