Can any one be a fashion model?

ACT, Australia - Sept. 24, 2018 - PRLog -- Jordan Martin has 25 years of experience in the modelling industry - including working with big names such as Armani, Playstation, and Lynx to name a few... and she has also mentored young wannabe models and trained new faces...

We asked her - what makes a good model - surely it is just about the right look?

"Well, you would think that, purely based on the history of the industry and to some extend societal stereotypes - however there is a lot more to modelling than meets the eye so to speak..."

So it is more than just aesthetics?

"Sure! Models have to have many qualities and these are character traits such as resilience and versatility... like any job it takes a lot of getting used to, some training and understanding of the industry and awareness of yourself as an individual as well as yourself as a model..."

Not as shallow as we assume then?

"There is much more than walking and pouting - you need to connect with the audience through a lens or project a message with a pose, understand designer briefs, manage your own diary or work with an agent and clients, as well as deal with the pressures of looking good... and so on."

Is this what you cover in your workshops?

"Some - but more [giggle] - I've teamed up with a friend and fantastic Canberra based fashion photographer Tina Nikolovski to run the Models 101 workshops and to provide models with practical movement training in front of the camera and runway walking and of course that all-important character building mentoring that so many young models need."

We asked Tina what a photographer looks for in a model?

"Every photographer is different - but generally we want a model that turns up on time, one that takes care of themselves - but most importantly a model that can listen to direction, understand the brief and the message, and move well in front of the camera."

Tina is the owner of Canberra based model agency Devojka Models,and works with various clients across the industry... What do clients look for?

"Again, it depends on the job, the brief, the brand - so many elements are needed to create a shoot - from conception to mood-boards to choosing models and the list goes on - all the way to post-production of the images... but clients want models to look good obviously, and to be confident and to be respectful and connect to the job and with the creatives. The most common issue is confidence with movement and with body and expression awareness - and this is why myself and Jordan have set-up the practical Models 101 workshop... so we can give models some of our 40 years of combined experience condensed in an intensive day of industry training."
