NCCT Offers Workshop on the Differences Between Relational Conflict & Abuse

Sept. 24, 2018 - PRLog -- Hosted and led by NCCT Intake Coordinator, Catherine Hodes, LICSW, the workshop will take place at The Florence Civic Center on Park Street in Florence, Massachusetts and will address the following questions:

●     Is it Conflict or Abuse?

●     Do you know how to differentiate conflict from abuse?

●     Do you know the core dynamics of partner abuse vs. heightened conflict?

●     How do we hold the complexity of relational power dynamics, while making accurate assessments about safety?

The event is designed for professionals in the field of couples therapy, family therapy or mental health.

It also provides the following professional incentives:

●       CEs: This program meets the requirements for 5 CEs/Continuing Education hours for Licensed Social Workers (LICSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC), and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT).

About Catherine Hodes, LICSW

Catherine Hodes, LICSW, was an advocate for survivors of partner violence, and the Director of the Safe Homes Project in Brooklyn, NY for 25 years. She is the co-author of "Is it Conflict or Abuse?: Furthering Differential Assessment and Response," published in Clinical Social Work Journal, (https://link.springer.com/epdf/10.1007/s10615-018-0655-8?...) (Spring 2018), and author of "Abusing Privilege: Broadening the Domestic Violence Paradigm," published in Family & Intimate Partner Violence Quarterly (Spring 2011).

Ms. Hodes relocated to Western Massachusetts in 2017, and served as the Intake Coordinator at Northampton Center for Couples Therapy (http://northamptoncouplestherapy.com/) until this past October. She is a lecturer at both Smith College School for Social Work and New York University Silver School of Social Work, and a clinical and organizational consultant around issues of abuse prevention and response. Most recently, Ms. Hodes became the Director of Survivor Support Services at Hampshire College.
