Quake Kare Emergency Survival Kits are Ready for National Preparedness Month

Quake Kare Survival Kits Take the Stress out of Disaster Preparedness
By: Quake Kare

ST. LOUIS - Sept. 8, 2018 - PRLog -- National Preparedness Month is observed every September in the U.S. since authorization by Congress in 2004 to strengthen the nation's preparedness capabilities and those of citizens following the tragic terrorist attack of September 11, 2001.

It is sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security. These agencies encourage all citizens to develop their own survival preparations for dealing with virtually any type of disaster, whether natural or manmade.

"The U.S. government is encouraging individuals, families and businesses to make their own emergency survival preparations to help keep people safe in the event of unexpected emergency.  To help families and businesses get 'emergency ready,' we have simplified the process of preparing the home, office, vehicle and classroom by offering a line of pre-assembled kits containing everything needed to survive the aftermath of any disaster," says Quake Kare's Brian Houser.

"September also was chosen because the Atlantic Hurricane season peaks in September – this condition may generate terrible damage and flooding in coastal communities."

"National Preparedness Month is a reminder that many measures can be taken to help protect our home and families," he says.  "We essentially want to take the stress out of preparing for a disaster and help our customers find 'Peace of Mind' knowing they are as prepared as they can be for the unexpected."

"Quake Kare provides more than 100 different types of survival kits and emergency supplies ranging from full-scale trauma supply kits to individual kits for students. As the industry leader, we continually strive to be the 'go-to resource' for disaster preparedness." (https://www.quakekare.com/).

"Government research shows that many families, schools and businesses are not prepared to deal with disaster, and many don't have a disaster plan in place," Houser points out.

"In today's uncertain environment and especially during hurricane and tornado seasons, it is crucial for people to plan for emergencies to help save lives.  No community is immune to a disaster thus everyone across the country, no matter where they live, should prepare for the unexpected."

"September 15 has been designated a National Day of Action. Many Americans will participate in grassroots campaigns to help people and communities prepare for earthquakes (https://www.fema.gov/earthquake), floods (http://msc.fema.gov/portal), hurricanes (http://www.aarp.org/home-family/your-home/info-2016/hurricane-survival-preparedness-tips.html), tornadoes (https://www.fema.gov/media-library-data/1409003506195-52740fd2983079a211d041f7aea6b85d/how_to_prepare_tornado_033014_508.pdf), wildfires (https://www.fema.gov/media-library-data/1409003859391-0e8ad1ed42c129f11fbc23d008d1ee85/how_to_prepare_wildfire_033014_508.pdf) and blizzards. The campaign also helps prepare communities for active shooter (https://community.fema.gov/hazard/active-shooter-en_us/be-smart?lang=en_US) and terrorism incidents."

Quake Kare and leading first response organizations advise people in all walks of life to follow these steps for emergency preparedness during National Preparedness Month or at any time:

·         Acquire emergency survival kits and supplies for homes, offices and vehicles, including for children and pets.

·         Develop emergency preparedness plans based upon different disaster scenarios — and practice them.

·         Stay informed about disaster preparedness news and updates by following media reports.

Here is just one example of a Quake Kare survival kit that helps save lives in a disaster:

Quake Kare's ER™ Emergency Ready Two Person Tornado/Hurricane Survival Kit contains essential, lifesaving items necessary to sustain two individuals for three days in the event of home evacuation or needs for shelter-in-place following a devastating tornado or hurricane. Packaged in a portable, water-resistant six-gallon container, this kit offers strategic emergency preparedness equipment and related advantages.

It contains effective survival food, water, lighting, radio/communication, first-aid supplies, sanitation toilet, and shelter supplies to help people survive earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, terrorist incidents, lockdowns and other catastrophes.

"Its contents also include a solar/hand-crank powered flashlight, NOAA weather band radio and USB device charger for charging smartphones and other USB devices so disaster victims can stay in touch with loved ones," Houser notes.

Quake Kare is owned by the not-for-profit Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis. The Lighthouse   currently employs 48 people who are legally blind in two manufacturing plants in St. Louis County to assemble, pack and ship Quake Kare survival kits and other products.

All Quake Kare product sales revenue directly supports Lighthouse Community Outreach programs for children and young adults who are blind or visually impaired in Missouri and Southwestern Illinois (http://www.lhbindustries.com/).

"As a not-for-profit organization we do not want to profit from disaster," Houser asserts. "We are proud that our many survival products can help keep people safe whenever there is a hurricane, earthquake, tornado, terrorist act or mass shooting," he says.
