Don't Book The Wrong Grand Canyon Tour

The Grand Canyon South Rim and the West Rim are very different areas, and visitors to Las Vegas booking tours to the Grand Canyon need to verify which area they will be touring before booking.

LAS VEGAS - Aug. 9, 2018 - PRLog -- When tourists land at McCarran Airport, they are greeted in the lobby with billboards and salesmen that are pushing "Grand Canyon Tours" for them to purchase. If you have come to Las Vegas from another part of the country or the world, this may be the first time that you realize that Las Vegas is positioned within a one-half day drive from the Grand Canyon. The area is actually a perfect starting point for the trip, and you can take only a day or two out of your Las Vegas vacation to also visit one of the most iconic areas on earth. Because the tour companies are offering both transportation as well as all of the aspects handled for you, anyone with a day or two to spare can simply arrange the tour and be picked up at their hotel room. The problem is that many of these people booking the tours are unaware that they are not actually going to the Grand Canyon National Park. Instead, they are going to an area known as the "West Rim" which is controlled by the Navajo Indian tribe. This area is far outside of the national park area, and is actually quite desolate and less scenic. For many years, the Navajo Tribe attempted to solicit tourist traffic from Las Vegas to this area with only minimal results. Even though it is closer to Las Vegas and will take less time to get there, most tourists wanted to see the area they have seen pictures of.

Several years ago, a project was constructed that embedded a glass bridge into the canyon wall at the West Rim, serving as a glass walkway over the canyon floor. It was heavily criticized as "unnatural" and many were against it, however development in the area is legal since it is not within the national park grounds. There is nothing wrong with this tourist attraction, but when it is marketed in a misleading way that makes people believe they are visiting the national park, many express regret afterward. When you book your tour of the Grand Canyon, make sure that you are visiting the South Rim if you want to see the national park area, or the West Rim if you want to see the Skywalk.
