PRLog -- Bottles of water, snacks, changes of clothes, instruments, and equipment packed, The GroovaLottos kick off their second summer of touring. Last year they were a band with a new album and The Phunk Hits tour literally grew an international fanbase in the streets for the band. This year the tour includes several indoor venues as well as gigs outside of New England.
One of the things underway is the development of the material for the next album. "Songwriting-
wise, we're good for about four more albums already." explains, keyboardist, Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor. "A lot of our shows become an opportunity to slip new songs into the set and try out the arrangements on the audiences. This was the method used with the first album, where by fans already knew a lot of the songs from The GroovaLottos shows and by the same token, the band already had a concept of the albums sound when they went into the studio. The method must have worked as the albums sales continue to be strong and we all know that it yielded 4 Grammy nominations in Pop and R&B. "R&B was a real surprise, since that's not our market," explained drummer, Eddie Ray Johnson.
"While the band is a soul music band, the nature of commercial R&B has shifted so much that the majority of audiences embracing the soul-funk-blues sound are considered Indie, Alternative and Jam Band fans. "We tend to share audiences with Phish, Lettuce, and groups like that." - Eddie Ray Johnson
The Phunk Hits continues on June 16th with a show at the Dedham Square Coffeehouse, 565 High St. Showtime is at 8pm.
