Govt sets up IT Grievance Redressal Committee to tackle taxpayers' difficulties

For making tax filing more suitable, the govt has announced the establishment of an I-T Grievance Redressal Mechanism to deal with the grievances faced by a section of taxpayers due to technical glitches.

INDORE, India - April 5, 2018 - PRLog -- The government on Wednesday announced that it had set up a grievance redressal mechanism to address taxpayers' difficulties owing to technical glitches on the GST portal.

The new mechanism enables the taxpayers, in case they were unable to file any form or return on account of a technical glitch by the due date, they would be allowed to do the same within a stipulated time period.  If any taxpayer could not fulfill the process of filing TRAN-1 (transitional credit form) in time due to the IT glitch, he would be allowed to complete the process by 30 April.

However, where the problem faces to individual taxpayer, because of localized issues like non-availability of internet connectivity or power supply-failure, this mechanism shall not be available.

The mechanism, among other things, envisages that taxpayers would have to approach field officers or the nodal officers, making an application, where there was a demonstrable glitch on the common portal due to which the due process, as envisaged in law, could not be completed on the portal.

The Income Tax Grievance Redressal Committee shall examine and approve the solutions as may be necessary for an identified issue.
