LOS ANGELES - March 27, 2018 - PRLog -- The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to announce Chico City Ranger Football Club as a new member starting with the 2018 Spring Season.

Based in the agricultural center of Northern California, Chico City Rangers FC begins UPSL play in the Wild West Conference, and will host its home games at Asgard Field at Pleasant Valley High School (1475 East Ave., Chico, CA 95926) in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "Northern California has really shown a passion for the UPSL, and now that passion has spread because of the UPSL's Promotion/Relegation Model. We're excited to announce Chico City Rangers FC as part of the UPSL. Communities like Chico have been bypassed by traditional sporting models but there's no denying the power of Pro/Rel and what it means to communities and to club soccer internationally. We wish Owner Manny Ortiz and Chico City Rangers FC the best of success in the UPSL."

Head Coach Manny Ortiz, 39, took ownership of the club two years ago as the team transitioned from the now-defunct Pacific Premier League (PPL) to non-league status and now a return to Pro Development with the UPSL.

Chico City Rangers FC Owner Manny Ortiz said, "I want the players to see what can be and now it's time for us to get bigger and get help with the vision. There's a passion to grow this club into something better for this community. It's our job now to show our supporters that we have what it takes to keep the ball rolling. We're excited to be a part of the UPSL and look forward to many great seasons to come."

Chico City Rangers FC are currently 1-1-0 in the UPSL Pro Premier Wild West Conference. The club dropped their opener on the road at Western Nevada FC before rebounding to beat JASA RWC, 4-2, on Saturday, March 24.

"Losing that opener was a sort of a slap in the face but it was good for them, too. It's good to play against better teams because that's how you figure out where you're at and what you need to work on," Ortiz said.

Born and raised in Chico (Calif.), Ortiz played locally for Butte United as a youth and later played two seasons Butte (Calif.) College. He was Chico City Ranger FC's first Head Coach in 2015, and also currently coaches multiple teams at Butte United SC.

Todd Simmons, 40, is the club's General Manager. Simmons played collegiate soccer at Chico State before a stint with the Chico Rooks (PDL).
