PASADENA, Calif. - Jan. 30, 2018 - PRLog -- The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA is holding a fee-waived adoption event to find homes for the 54 cats rescued from a single Pasadena residence last week. This Friday, February 2 through Sunday, February 4, visitors can adopt one of the "Fabulous 54" felines at no cost during regular adoption hours. The adoption includes the spay/neuter surgery, microchip and age-appropriate vaccines.

"We are asking members of the community to come forward and provide a loving home to these cats," said Julie Bank, President & CEO of the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA. "The Fabulous 54 had a rough start in life, but we hope that they will become more comfortable around people once in a home with access to a warm bed, fresh food, a clean litterbox and one-on-one attention."

The Pasadena Humane Society wants adopters to be aware that the 54 cats will require special homes. Due to their prior living conditions, the cats have not received adequate socialization. They are fearful of people, but some are beginning to show improvement. It may take days, months or longer for them to adjust to living with a family. There is a possibility that the cats may never be fully accepting of human interaction, but the organization hopes they will become loving companions over time.

The cats have had medical evaluations at the Pasadena Humane Society. Most range in age from 6 months to 5 years old. They have been vaccinated, treated for intestinal parasites and fleas, and have tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV.

The 54 cats were found on Tuesday, January 23 living in unsanitary conditions in a single family home in Pasadena. Pasadena Humane Society's animal control was dispatched to the house after a concerned neighbor called into the organization's tip line. Officers made repeated attempts to gain access to the house and were finally granted access on January 23. The owner surrendered the cats to the Pasadena Humane Society on her own volition.

The Pasadena Humane Society has set up an online donation page for community members looking to help. In-kind donations such as cat food, towels, and cat litter are also needed. Monetary donations can be made online at pasadenahumane.org/miracle.

The animal control investigation is ongoing. The Pasadena Humane Society is working closely with the City of Pasadena code enforcement department to ensure the cat's owner receives the care and services she needs. If you suspect animal cruelty, report it immediately to your local animal control authority.

The Pasadena Humane Society is located at 361 S. Raymond Avenue in Pasadena. Adoption hours are Friday, February 2, 9am to 5pm; Saturday, February 3, 9am to 4pm; Sunday, February 4, 11am to 4pm. Regular adoption process applies.
