Follow on Google News | ![]() You Be the Judge by Robert ("Bob") Dunlap EmersonBy: Aquillrelle Preface In May 1957, I was sworn in as a Federal Agent at age twenty-three. The Agency that recruited me was the Office of Naval Intelligence, now the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. This was the beginning of a forty-six-year career that included service as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Many years were also devoted to investigations in Proprietary Security and as a Private Investigator. My interest in Law Enforcement and Criminal Investigations began when I was in my teens and was influenced by my father's being Sheriff of Chatham County, North Carolina. I idolized him and learned many investigative tools and techniques not taught in Police Schools. Counting those years, I have over half a century of exposure to various Enforcement Agencies and courtrooms stretching from Chatham County to many of the lower forty-eight states. Law Enforcement is a low-paying and hazardous job performed by a few but admired by many. Those who elect to put their lives at risk routinely are a unique breed drawn to their profession much as Clergy are called to spread the Word of God. Those in Law Enforcement may be a little more daring than the average citizen, and some may even push the envelope to the edge. During my career, I investigated some of the most hideous crimes imaginable, and the details are set forth in my first book, Dancing with Devils. But along the way were some humorous, unique, routine, and exciting incidents that I share with you in this collection. They are not in any particular order either chronologically or by Agency. They appeared as recollections meandered through my mind while reminiscing of times gone by. I participated in, observed, heard about, or otherwise became cognizant of the stories contained herein. Some are true, some mostly true, and some a little true; others are the apparent figments of vivid imaginations. YOU BE THE JUDGE!
