SKOKIE, Ill. - Sept. 20, 2017 - PRLog -- Chief Executive Officer Dr. Bruce Bloom and the Executive Board of Cures Within Reach, the leading global nonprofit focused on repurposing research as a fast track to saving patient lives, are pleased to announce the hiring of Barbara Goodman as President and Chief Operating Officer.

Barbara's hiring is part of a larger strategic plan for Cures Within Reach, focusing on an expansion of the reach and influence of the organization in both the philanthropic and commercial spaces, as well as fostering organizational growth and financial stability. As part of the strategic plan, Dr. Bruce Bloom has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer. In his role as CEO, Bruce will increase his work in creating global partnerships to leverage existing science and medicine to help patients lead healthier, longer and more productive lives.

"Barbara is an excellent addition to the team," said Margaret Christie, Partner at Golan Christie Taglia LLP and Cures Within Reach Executive Board Chair. "Her years of experience in the healthcare field will help Cures Within Reach grow and advance its mission of driving treatments to patients through repurposing research, both today and in the future."

Barbara has over twenty years of experience in the planning and implementation of strategic growth initiatives at both for-profit and not-for-profit corporations. Barbara comes to Cures Within Reach from iBIO and the iBIO Institute. As Senior Vice President of iBIO Institute's PROPEL Center, Barbara developed programs to increase the number and success rate of early-stage life sciences companies in Illinois and supported iBIO's international activities.  Before joining the iBIO Institute, she worked in corporate strategy and business development at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (now the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab), Cardinal Health in its Medical Products & Services Division and Chesapeake Corporation.

"With repurposing research gaining attention as an important way to deliver treatments to patients, Cures Within Reach is poised to take on a much larger role as a global leader in this space," said Barbara Goodman. "I'm excited to join the team, and I'm looking forward to working with the many stakeholders from industry, academia, philanthropy, science, medicine and patient advocacy groups. Together we can increase patient impact while driving more treatments to more patients more quickly."

Barbara earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of Minnesota and a Master's of Business Administration from Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Barbara joins Cures Within Reach on September 25, 2017.

ABOUT CURES WITHIN REACH

Cures Within Reach works to catalyze repurposing research to quickly and affordably improve patient lives. We accomplish this by connecting funders with researchers to jumpstart repurposing research clinical trials, by providing collaboration tools so repurposing stakeholders can work together more easily, and by pioneering alternative finance engines and incentives for repurposing research. Cures Within Reach's repurposing research projects have generated over a dozen "new" treatments making patient impact through off-label use in clinical practice or through a commercialization track. Cures Within Reach currently has 24 repurposing research projects either funded or approved for funding.

ABOUT CUREACCELERATORâ„¢

Cures Within Reach built CureAccelerator to provide a global collaboration space and marketplace for repurposing research that can deliver effective solutions to unsolved diseases. The CureAccelerator platform was built with a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, to provide a platform in which drugs, devices and nutriceuticals approved for one or more human diseases can be repurposed to create "new" treatments in other diseases. CureAccelerator has over 1,300 users who have proposed 150 projects, of which more than 20 have received funding and are moving towards patient impact.
