Start Stampede Downtown at FLUOR ROPE SQUARE!

CALGARY, Alberta - June 27, 2017 - PRLog -- The Downtown Attractions Committee (DTA) is excited to welcome the return of Fluor Rope Square during this year's Calgary Stampede.

Calgary's Olympic Plaza will be transformed into Fluor Rope Square, the downtown home of Stampede entertainment, fun, and world-famous grub. The activities and entertainment at Rope Square are free, with something special for everyone – including, for the first time ever, turkey bacon from Lilydale Farms in our famous bacon pancakes!

Head down to Rope Square during Stampede for free pancake breakfasts, lunchtime entertainment and Calgary Food Trucks, interactive entertainment and activities (like Butterfield Acres Petting Zoo), and live performances.

Where: Fluor Rope Square is located at the corner of 7th Avenue and Macleod Trail SE, across from City Hall, Downtown Calgary.

When: Saturday July 8 & July 15: 8:15am – 12 noon
Monday – Friday, July 10 to July 14: 8:15am – 1pm

What: Free Stampede entertainment for all ages! (See attached description of entertainment and activities attached below for more information, or please visit www.stampede-downtownattractions.com)

This year's Fluor Rope Square entertainment and activities include:
Fluor Rope Square presents marching bands, dancers, singers, fiddlers, clowns, face painting, fun, friendly mascots, Calgary Food Trucks and a High Noon Hootenanny with country music artists. You could be invited to compete in the Lammle's World Championship Hat Stomping Contest, the Fluor Great Western Flapjack Flip or be sworn in as a honourary Calgarian. The Stampede Queen and Princesses make guest appearances in addition to other visiting dignitaries and celebrity guests. Don't forget to enter the Fluor Daily Prize Draw. Entertainment starts at 9:30am daily.

About the Downtown Attractions Committee:
The Calgary Stampede Downtown Attractions Committee (DTA) was formed in 1947 by a group of square dancers travelling downtown from hotel to hotel. It became an official Calgary Stampede Committee in 1953 and today brings the Stampede spirit and western heritage to downtown during the Calgary Stampede. The DTA has evolved into the largest Calgary Stampede Committee with over 325 year-round volunteers, joined by another 180 from major sponsor Fluor during Stampede week.

Downtown Attractions, hosted by volunteers of the Calgary Stampede Downtown Attractions Committee, includes Fluor Rope Square (Olympic Plaza on the corner of 7th Avenue and Macleod Trail SE across from City Hall) and other locations throughout downtown Calgary. All entertainment and activities are FREE!

Saturday July 8 & 15 8:15am – 12noon, Monday - Friday July 10-14: 8:15 – 1pm HIGH NOON HOOTENANNY

Weekdays (Monday-Friday July 10-14) during the lunch hour, HIGH NOON HOOTENANNY continues, featuring well known country music names along with rising stars. Local YYC food trucks are also on site.Featured acts over the week include:
- Saturday (the 8th): Cabot's Crossing and Dara
- Monday: Drum Off Competition
- Tuesday: Michael Painchaud
- Thursday: Amy Nelson
- Friday: Wyatt
- Saturday (the 15th): Olivia Wik

CHUCKWAGON BREAKFASTS
8:15am – 10:30am Get your flapjacks and bacon hot off the griddles from the back of the authentic GMC Rangeland Derby Chuckwagons and Fluor Smokies at Fluor Rope Square. Sometimes you might even get to meet one of drivers! New addition this year, you can also try out a Lilydale Farms turkey bacon pancake.

OLD TIME RIGS
Tour downtown Calgary in a horse-drawn old time rig and enjoy a free pancake breakfast along the way. Meet our volunteers at the NE corner of Fluor Rope Square across from City Hall. A limited number of free tickets are distributed to passengers each day on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 8:30  am Be sure to arrive early, the wagons fill quickly. Ticket holders are then escorted from Fluor Rope Square at 9:30 am to the departure point on 9th Avenue and 1st Street SW (EnCana Place across from the Palliser Hotel). The tour leaves at 10am and takes approximately one hour. Rig passengers are welcome to stay on board all the way to Stampede Park and will be dropped off at Olympic Gate. Note: this activity is not suitable for those with mobility restrictions.

FIRST NATIONS PARADE (weather permitting)
Members of the five tribes of Treaty 7, dressed in traditional regalia, proudly share their heritage and culture through dance, music and commentaries. Come join them in the Friendship Dance. Parade starts at 11:30am.

SQUARE DANCING
Kick up your heels and join us at Stephen Avenue Walk between Centre and 1st Street SW from 10:00am – 12:00 noon. Experience isn't necessary. With the help of our Fluor Square Dancers, anyone can learn to dance.
