'Lemonade': A Woman's Struggle with Reality

MUMBAI, India - April 24, 2017 - PRLog -- Actress, journalist and now an author, Akansha Shivhare has released her first book, Lemonade, which is published by Notion Press.

LEMONADE, although is a fiction, Gungun Gupta's character is inspired by Akansha Shivhare's life. Everything that Akansha has gone through in dealing with the demon called Cancer, she has put it forth through Gungun. Yes, the rest is embellishment but the torment of Chemotherapy is from her own experience.

As humans, it's only natural that we give the negatives of life way too much weightage. We dwell in them, letting them overpower us. This diminishes our being and us in every way possible. One such negative is Cancer. The moment we hear this word, it creates a fear in us. It's the encounter with this demon that shatters not only the afflicted but also those around the afflicted.

Do we have the ability to wade this demon? Shouldn't we have a greater will to resist the negative? Should we allow Cancer or any other negative overpower us? These are questions we fail to answer as we get reveled in getting bogged down by it all.

This book is the inspiring story of Gungun Gupta who has some set goals for her life. She aspires to have a decent career and a life with her loved ones. She is working towards making it and almost having it all. Her life is not perfect but the degree of this imperfection just escalates with her diagnoses. She is afflicted with the second stage of Ductal Carcinoma which is Breast Cancer. Everything about her life spirals downward at rocket speed. In the process, she discovers that life is not all rainbows and butterflies. She confronts life for what it really is, a bitter truth. But what makes Gungun different is she tells her story with wit, humor, sarcasm and gumption!

'When life throws you a curveball, hit it out of the park!' is Akansha's perspective. She refused to see it as an overpowering negative. She chose to treat her diagnosis like the flu. She never gave Cancer the weightage or importance it usually gets. In the turmoil, she chose a different path. A path called happiness. She is still fighting her battle with Cancer but doing it with utmost fun, love, and joy!

Living with cancer is not an easy task. "I lost my waist-long locks because of chemotherapy. I had no eyebrows or eyelashes left. I put on close to 10 kilos as I began retaining water because of all the drugs," Shivhare said. But the striking part of her statement was, "A lot comes to a stake with cancer but you have to choose what side you're on. Your own or cancer's?" Despite going through what can only be described as the worst time of her life, she made herself see the shore at the end of treacherous waters.
