Achieving Singapore's Goal for Sustainable Transformation

Development and construction industry leaders gather at Retrofit Asia to accelerate sustainable modification of existing buildings

ORCHARD ROAD, Singapore - April 21, 2017 - PRLog -- The Singapore government is promoting energy efficient retrofit initiatives for the existing buildings' owners in order to reduce the cost of maintenance in terms of energy bills and to do their bit toward the environment. The green scheme will help the building owners to avail them funds / loans for retrofitting their existing structure.

This initiative is aimed to make the existing buildings equipped with energy efficient retrofits to overcome the challenges of maintenance cost, achieve sustainability and make the existing structure as good as new, through retrofits.

Singapore is one of the first countries in the world to mandate standards for existing buildings. According to the government plan, 80% of Singapore buildings are to go green by 2030, with 50% of them beingexisting buildings.

In order to facilitate collaborative efforts towards greening of existing buildings, Retrofit Asia Conference (12-13 June 2017) will gather key industry players and experts in Singapore. The event will focus on the need to adopt energy efficient retrofit features that will help make the buildings energy efficient and sustainable.

One of the key issues to be discussed is property asset management – a 360 degree perspective on energy efficiency and optimizing the potential saving in utilities. The event will also delve into talking about innovative energy efficient buildings, usage of new materials for old buildings –retrofitting existing buildings with nanotechnology.

Another good example of a hi-tech approach – BIM (Building Information Modeling) for renovation and retrofitting. This topic will be presented by Sonny Andalis, Civil and Structural BIM Specialist at BCA (Building and Construction Authority), who will share his expertise in the subject.

The conference will also feature a technical site visit to an award winning building retrofit project – The German Centre Singapore. The building has adopted an energy conservation strategy and has received prestigious awards - Energy Efficiency National Partnership Award 2014 from NEA, under the 'Best Practices' category, and award for existing non-residential buildings from BCA AWARDS 2015.Since the building underwent entire retrofitting modifications, it has reached impressive 50% reduction in energy consumption at the whole system level.

Extra highlight of the conference is the opportunity to earn 13 SCEM-PDU points awarded by the Institution of Engineers Singapore.

The Retrofit Asia is organized by Fleming. with the support of Danfoss, the leading global technology provider striving for energy efficiency and climate-friendly solutions for refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, motor control and mobile machinery.
