Follow on Google News | High Achievers Need Help To Keep GoingBy: Nicole van Hattem But, many high-achievers do not ask for help and keep going until they crash and burn. Most people don't know the signs of becoming "burnt out" or understanding the health implications associated. It is not like a flu that will disappear in a couple of weeks, it impacts productivity and drive, and the longer-lasting results can be devastating. Nicole van Hattem, Workplace Wellness Activist helps remove "death by desk" in businesses, and she said: "When we feel burnout we are left feeling diminished, like a part of ourselves has gone into hiding. I've experienced burnout several times in my 30-year career but, I have also discovered if I want to thrive instead of surviving, I should be ready and willing to know the tell-tale signs and ask for help. "Many High-achievers suffer from anxiety. I have been there – wanting to be the best and felling like I am not. I now realise I don't need to be perfect to perform and be the best." As a successful business person asking for help is not always easy and is considered a sign of failing. But reaching out for help or support can teach healthier ways to cope with anxiety, stress, and depression. Nicole said, "Never hold back on turning for support even if you are already wildly successful, having someone to help you reach your greatest potential is key and can leave you feeling hot in business and still be healthy for life." High-achievers may experience mild symptoms of tension, worry and edginess, but as they move closer to burn out, the anxiety becomes serious. It can over their life and leave them with a string of health problems - hormone imbalances, weight gain and heart conditions. "The symptoms I experienced included heart palpitations, food cravings, less patience and lack of sleep - these made my ability to make decisions difficult, left me fatigued, moody and depressed," Nicole said. "If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you need to wake up and take action. Your first step is to ask for help." What is important is to know the inner-self well enough to know the early warning signs," Nicole said, "Utilise your support tools. I have daily rituals - I get a massage or mediate daily, or I call upon my friends and family, or reach out to social media for support. I find these methods really work for me." http://nicolevanhattem.com/ END End
