| ![]() Explore the Peruvian Highlands on Latin America's Only Luxury Sleeper TrainLlama Travel is offering the chance to spend two nights aboard the brand new luxury sleeper train whilst exploring the highlights of Peru.
By: Llama Travel The train provides a unique opportunity to experience one of the highest altitude railway lines on earth, and explore the ancient civilisations and natural wonders of Peru from sunrise to sunset. Surrounded by spectacular scenery enjoyed from the observation car, you can sit back and take it all in while sipping a cocktail from the bar. Standard accommodation is in bunk bed cabins. Twin cabins and matrimonial suites are available for a supplement. Each cabin has its own en-suite and shower and the interior design is inspired by the texture of Peru's hand-woven fabrics, and the soft tones of the Alpaca wool. The place to mingle aboard the train is the lounge car, which features a baby-grand piano and comfortable chairs. Meet and chat with other passengers or simply enjoy the rocking of the train, in a true return to a bygone era when the journey was as much a part of the travel experience as the destination. Meals on the train are enjoyed in two elegant dining cars, where fresh, colourful and seasonal dishes are served using locally sourced ingredients from the Peruvian Andes. The train is boarded in Cusco on day nine of the itinerary, for a full-day journey travelling through the Peruvian altiplano towards Puno. There is a stop after lunch to visit the Inca site of Raqchi, before continuing to Lake Titicaca, arriving in the late evening. The night is spent aboard the train, beside the lake shore. The next morning, enjoy a full day exploring the lake and islands by boat, before visiting Taquile Island, where the islanders have established their own distinct culture. Lunch is taken at Collata Beach on the island, before a demonstration of local dance and artisan work. The train leaves for Arequipa in the afternoon, arriving at the lake of Sara Cocha in the late evening, where the night will be spent. Departing in the morning, the train visits the Sumbay Caves (with lunch on board), before arriving at Arequipa in the early afternoon, where passengers will disembark. Other highlights of the holiday include Cusco, once the centre of the Inca Empire, a train ride to Machu Picchu and a visit to this extraordinary citadel, the Colca Canyon near Arequipa, which rivals the Grand Canyon, and a tour of historical Arequipa. The holiday costs from £3599 pp (two sharing), which includes international and domestic flights, all land transportation, 13 nights' B&B (full board on the Andean Explorer) and local guides.
