Cyber Smart Business - Identifying Threats and Preventing Attacks

NCSAM Champion Organization Pivotal IT will be hosting a workshop in support of National Cyber Security Awareness Month

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Oct. 21, 2016 - PRLog -- Being a Cyber Smart Business is not simply employing the right kind of technology, it also requires a strategic approach on the part of everyone; both at home, and in the office.

All of us here at Pivotal IT are excited to be returning as Champions of National Cyber Security Awareness Month https://staysafeonline.org/ncsam/about.  This collaborative effort between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its public and private partners, including the National Cyber Security Alliance, was created to raise awareness about the importance of cyber security and individual cyber hygiene.

Join us on Wednesday, October 26th from 9am - 11 am at the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce and get the latest information to help you and your staff identify social engineering, phishing attacks, suspicious URLS and other threats. You'll discover how to create effective passwords, secure your personal mobile devices and protect critical data while on the go.  Attendees will receive a customizable Acceptable Use Policy template and a NCSAM Certificate of Appreciation.

We encourage everyone to participate in National Cyber Security Awareness Month! Each week in October is dedicated to a specific cyber security theme to offer the opportunity for government and industry to get involved in cyber security activities most relevant to them. Themes for this year are:

Week 1: Every Day Steps Towards Online Safety with Stop Think Connect™ - reinforcing basic tips for everyone to be safer online, including more secure accounts through stronger authentication and keeping security updates current.
Week 2 : Cyber from the Breakroom to the Boardroom - a look at how a shared level of vigilance and awareness from the CEO to entry-level employees is needed to promote a culture of cyber security at work.
Week 3 : Recognizing and Combating Cyber Crime - As technology advances, the impact of cyber crime is becoming more costly and frequent.  This week focuses on the signs of criminal intent through technology and what individuals can do to detect and prevent cyber crime.
Week 4 : Our Continuously Connected Lives: What's Your 'App'-titude? - With more of our lives managed by smart devices – we are confronted with the need for increased awareness to secure them. This week provides a look at the future and how cyber security is being built into advanced technology along with areas of opportunity for individuals to operate securely in a digital society.
Week 5 : Building Resilience in Critical Infrastructure Recognizing and Combating Cyber Crime - Resilience of essential systems and assets, from power grids to banking systems, is vital to our national security, economy, and public health and safety. NCSAM wraps up with a look at the sustainment of the Nation's critical infrastructure, and facilitates the transition to November's Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month (CISR).
