CLEARWATER, Fla. - Oct. 20, 2016 - PRLog -- On Thursday, October 20th starting at 6:30 pm, the Savoy South Dance Hall is coming to the Fort Harrison's Crystal Ballroom, taking guests back to the 40's with a charity swing dance for the Pinellas Sheriff's Police Athletic League (PAL).

The event will start with a dance lesson at 7 pm. To attend, one does not need to already know how to dance; the event is open to all. After the lessons, the guests will dance to live swing music, performed by the Fort Harrison Band. There will be several opportunities for donations to PAL, including a traditional cake walk, for a chance to win a cake.

The dance lesson will be led by Arlene Norman of Savoy South Dance Hall & Right Step Studios. Open for over 20 years, they have provided group and private dance instructions for many different dances including Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Flamenco. This dance studio was named after The Savoy, a dance club in Harlem, New York with a ballroom 10,000 square feet in size, which was very popular in the 20's, 30's and 40's.

"The Fort Harrison has seen dancing ever since its Grand Opening ball in 1926," said Lisa Mansell, the Public Affairs Director for the Church of Scientology in Clearwater. "The Church of Scientology acquired the Fort Harrison in 1975 and has continued the tradition by having regular community events and banquets, with dancing as a feature."

Since 2001, the Pinellas Sheriff's Police Athletic League in Lealman has provided tutoring, mentoring and sports activities to youth who seek adult guidance, enjoy sports, or need after school help.

"We are open to charities and non-profit organizations to hold their own events in the Fort Harrison," continued Ms. Mansell.
