By: Alliance for Affordable Energy The 2016 Lighting The Way Gala Honorees are: Consumer Champion: Commissioner Lambert Boissiere, III, Louisiana Public Service Commission Groesch Lifetime Achievement Award: Tommy Millner,Esq., (Anzelmo, Millner, & Burke, LLC) Visionary Leader:vvSecretary Chuck Barr Brown, LDEQ (Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality) Defender of the People: Susan Guidry New Orleans City Council Member, District A Business Luminary: Glen Post, CEO & President, Century Link, Inc. Additionally, The Alliance is working with its partners in the clean energy sector to give one "Lighting The Way" winner a sustainable "Green Home Makeover". The opportunity to receive the "Green Home Makeover" (GHM), worth thousands, is offered with the purchase of a $100 raffle ticket. The "GHM" starts with an audit and architectural consultation, followed by insulation, HVAC tune-up, solar elements, duct, window, and door sealing: all are improvements to reduce the home's carbon footprint and utility bill. Founded in 1985, the Alliance promotes fair, affordable, and environmentally responsible energy policy. Additionally, The Alliance advances a philosophy that there is no conflict between: lower energy costs and lower pollution, between good jobs and regulation, or between serving the public interest and making a reasonable profit. The AAE's policy work focuses on social justice, sustainable economic development, and environmental protection. In order to achieve its mission, the Alliance has three programs: Clean Energy, Consumer Protection and Education, and Energy Efficiency. New Orleans Policy Director, Logan Atkinson-Burke, stated "The AAE's accomplishments in New Orleans demonstrate the synergies between the AAE's technical policy work and community organizing. The Alliance is committed to promoting a new vision for energy policy: taking Louisiana from an "energy state" to a clean energy leader, with New Orleans forging the path."
