KY's oldest town plans 50 events and activities for the 2016 holidays

HARRODSBURG, Ky. - Oct. 17, 2016 - PRLog -- Gift-making workshops, holiday open houses, Christmas teas, parades and theatre – even a Blessing of the Hounds – Harrodsburg makes merry with 50 activities and events, proving the adage that the simple gifts of the season are the very best ones of all.

Harrodsburg's holiday calendar begins on Nov. 4 with Candlelight Herbal Yoga at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill and a Holiday Open House at Back Porch Treasures Craft & Antique Mall and continues through Dec. 17 when Shaker Village hosts Children's Tea Time with Mrs. Claus and its final Shaker Makers workshop of the season. All I want for Christmas

The best gifts are the ones that come from the hands and heart. Sign up for one or more of the holiday Shaker Maker workshops presented by Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill: hand-tied brooms (Nov. 5, Dec. 4); holiday reed stars (Nov. 6, Dec. 3 and 10); beeswax candle and soap making (Nov. 13, Dec. 11); holiday greenery "make one take one" (Nov. 19-20); market basket (Dec. 17). Additionally, the Mercer County Public Library will hold a Family Christmas Ornament Workshop on Dec. 3.

No place like home for the holidays

In addition to Back Porch Treasures Craft & Antique Mall, these venues will host an open house: Old Fort Harrod State Park (Nov. 19); Ellis Florist & Gifts (Nov. 19-20); Beehive Gifts & Pet Boutique (Nov. 25-26); and The Shops at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill (Dec. 3). Holiday sales will take place at these venues: Back Porch Treasures Craft & Antique Mall and Salvisa Station Gift Shop (Nov. 25-26); Black Watch Alpaca (Nov. 26); and Lucto Pottery (Dec. 3).

The 25th Annual Harrodsburg Holiday Homes Tour, presented by the Harrodsburg Historical Society, will take place 1-7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, and will include visits to seven venues, including Saint Philip's Episcopal Church, Clay Hill, the Rafter Log House and the Kirkwood Baptist Church & Cemetery.

The sights and sounds of Christmas

Two special concerts will be presented for the holidays. On Sat., Nov. 12, see Meghan Linsey in Concert at Studio G. Linsey was NBC's 2015 runner-up on Season 8 of "The Voice." "Come Home to Christmas" will be presented by Larry Sanders and the Borderline Band on Sun., Dec. 4, at the James Harrod Conference Center in Old Fort Harrod State Park.

On Nov. 19-20, step right into 1775 when the Friends of Fort Harrod host the 18th Century Trade Fair in Old Fort Harrod State Park – Christmas for re-enactors who will be able to find historical clothing, powder horns, hunting pouches, black power guns, knives and accoutrements from highly acclaimed 18th century craftsmen and craftswomen.

The Salvisa Christmas Parade will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1. The next day on Dec. 2, The Season's Simple Gifts Parade takes place at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Harrodsburg.

Holiday theatre comes to Harrodsburg's Ragged Edge Community Theatre, with the production of "Elf Jr., The Musical" on Nov. 17-20 and "A Christmas Carol" on Dec. 2 and 4. On Nov. 26, drama of a different variety unfolds with the Blessing of the Hounds at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.

Now give us some figgy pudding

Harrodsburg Historical Society will open its Christmas Tea Room on Dec. 2 and 3: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill will hold a number of holiday gatherings: Afternoon Tea, 2:30-4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Dec. 2-31 (except Dec. 30); Children's Tea Time with Mrs. Claus, 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Dec. 3, 10 and 17; Breakfast Buffet, 7:30-10 a.m. on Saturdays, Dec. 10-31 (except Dec. 24); and Buffet Luncheons, 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Dec. 12-23.
