Local Resident Makes a Commitment to His City

OMAHA, Neb. - Oct. 4, 2016 - PRLog -- Just one small act of goodwill can make a huge difference in someone's life.  Think of the good we can achieve if we extend that gesture across an entire year!  To highlight the spirit and value of volunteer work, non-profit We Can Make a Difference is sponsoring 365 consecutive random acts of kindness to benefit the Omaha community.  These acts of kindness can range from something as simple as providing a bus pass for someone waiting for a ride to a monthly luncheon that feeds more than 150 people at the local homeless shelter, The Siena Francis house. 



Begun at the end of July, an important goal of these daily acts of kindness is to help jump-start new volunteer ideas in the community, while showing just how easy it is to make a positive impact on our community and society, says We Can Make a Difference Director Mick Manley, a local Farmers Insurance agent.

"While Nebraska is in the top 10 for percentage of people volunteering, Omaha is not in the top 50 of cities. Bringing Omaha into the top 50 could push our state into one of the top 5 spots, enhancing our resolve and demonstrating how much we care about others," Manley says.

Since these are daily acts, getting involved is very easy.  Just one hour, once per year from every adult in the Omaha Metro Area is the equivalent of 15,000 full weeks of volunteer effort.  We Can Make a Difference wants to make it easy to get involved in hopes that it will encourage new and repeat volunteers, not just for We can Make a difference but, also, all the non-profits in greater Omaha.
