Follow on Google News | Local Non-Profit Cleans Veteran's GravesBy: We Can Make a Difference OMAHA, Neb., —Sometimes, the smallest gesture can make a great impact, as local philanthropic organization We Can Make A Difference is proving. Each week, weed-whackers and pruning shears in hand, the WCMAD team hits the ground running, trying to improve the look of our local veteran's graves. To some, this may seem like an unimportant task when you think about the grand scheme of non-profit work in our community, but WCMAD founder Mick Manley, a local Farmers Insurance agent, doesn't see it that way. "Our veterans, these men and women, have given so much to us, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation; it feels great to be able to pay our respects in this way. It also FORCES our team, once a week, to step back and realize who we have to thank for all of the privileges that we have today," Manley says. As another WCMAD volunteer says, "This is an appreciation or reminder, if you will, for a life well-lived. A gravestone legend connects a name and lifespan with much broader ideas of existence; we wonder what stories that person would have to tell. A simple deed, such as the tidying of gravestones, demonstrates respect for the sacrifices that our veterans have made for us. It also helps us rededicate our own lives, understanding that our lives and deeds, in turn, make a difference and must never be forgotten." About We Can Make a Difference. Founded in 2014, We Can Make a Difference is a grassroots philanthropic organization dedicated to helping those in the Omaha community. Among its programs, We Can Make a Difference has provided hot multi-course meals for the homeless in Omaha and distributed daily essentials to hundreds of people in need, working to help these individuals get one step closer to having secure shelter and a brighter future.
