PRLog -- Pondicherry, India, a culturally rich destination today, is also a journey to the past. Located on India's Coromandel Coast, the city celebrates its French Colonial history, blends it with the local Tamil culture, and fills the senses of visitors with a rich and varied heritage laced with grace and hospitality. You will find traces of the storied French East India Company here.
The story "Pondicherry,"
features Monsieur Dupon and his son, whom the father shapes to acquire a destiny. The Dupons beheld the botanical garden of the French Quarter that was located two blocks west of a magnificent palm tree-fringed promenade. Romantics walked there to enjoy the warm sea breezes. Spectacular red sunsets were framed by the gentle sea of the Bay of Bengal, and the setting put the town in harmony with the local natural setting and heavenly bodies. The name of every street began with the word "rue," the French word for street. French goverrnor Dumas kept the original Dutch-designed grid of streets, thus all streets in Pondicherry intersect at right angles. But, with a distinctively French flair, the governor encircled the entire French Quarter with a spectacular boulevard. By visually softening the French portion of Pondicherry, his intent was clear. He would help the colonial French people to adapt to the local Tamil culture. Plan your visit to Pondicherry, to see what the French left behind, and to experience the splendor and hospitality of southern India.
