PROSPER, Texas - Sept. 6, 2016 - PRLog -- As we come to the time of year that impacted so many lives, it's common to remember, and try to find a way to pay tribute to the victims and heroes of September 11th, 2011. This year marks the 15th Anniversary of the day the towers fell, costing the lives of 2,996 individuals and injuring 6,000 others.

In an effort to support #NeverForget, the Red Cross has partnered with Kroger and The Mission United Methodist Church to host a community blood drive Sunday, September 11th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cockrell Elementary, located at 1075 Escalante Trail in Prosper.

"Blood donations decrease significantly during the summer, so now is a great time to donate to help replenish our blood supply", said Samantha Pollard, Red Cross Communications Manager. "Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion, and as the largest supplier of blood in the country, the Red Cross needs 14,000 donations a day to help patients in need. It's the blood donations on the shelves that help save lives when an emergency occurs."

"This project is close to my heart as I was in New York on 9/11", said Jay Stephenson, of The Mission UMC's Executive Leadership Team and project lead. "The Red Cross is in desperate need of donations, stating that on average, they collect 28.5 pints of blood per event in Texas. We're hoping to far exceed that number with the town's support".

The event hopes to collect a record breaking 300 pints of blood, and asking for the community's participation and assistance in spreading the word by liking and sharing the event's link on Facebook.com/TheMissionPropser (https://www.facebook.com/events/1014474051999945/).

"We are excited to join The Mission UMC and the Red Cross to help sponsor the Community Blood Drive in Prosper on September 11th", stated Ignacio Gonzales, Kroger Public Affairs Specialist. "We hope the citizens of The Town of Prosper will join us in helping honor the memory of true heroes by giving the gift of blood".

"The Mission UMC is a church that firmly believes in mission and community service, so being in partnership with the Red Cross and Kroger to host a community blood drive that honors our first responders just fits what we are to do as believers", said Pastor Melissa Hatch, The Mission UMC.

Schedule your appointment at redcrossblood.org using sponsor code THEMISSION or contact Jay Stephenson at jay.stephenson@sbcglobal.net. Children over 16 can donate with parental consent.
