KENT, Ohio - Aug. 31, 2016 - PRLog -- The Fastenal Professional Sales Laboratory will be presented to the public on Monday, September 19 as a gift to Kent State University's College of Business Administration. Fastenal provided Kent State with a $25,000 pledge to build a new sales laboratory and update the existing sales lab on the fifth floor.

According to Ellen Daniels, Kent State College of Business Administration marketing and entrepreneurship instructor, more than 350 College of Business Administration students use the space each semester to present, record and receive faculty feedback on their sales communication skills. The labs provide a realistic office environment for students to role play a specific sales scenario with a faculty member or corporate partner playing the role of the buyer. Following the recording, each student is able to watch themselves and receive an evaluation on effectiveness as well as a plan for specific areas needing improvement.

"Sales students learn much more if they are able to review their presentations on tape and receive immediate feedback from faculty and corporate partners," said Daniels.

In addition the sales lab offers the College uses such as interview space for corporate recruiters as well as the dedicated Career Services Office used for undergraduate and graduate mock interviews.  Additionally, the Kent State College of Business Administration Sales Team uses the lab space to prepare for national sales competitions.

"We are one of the few universities that house a sales lab with realistic office settings for sales training which adds to the overall effectiveness of the sales curriculum," said Daniels. "Fastenal recognized the importance of the College having a virtual sales experience through a 'lab setting' and provided a financial gift to help us improve the facilities for our students," said Daniels.

The estimated cost for the existing sales lab renovations was nearly $8,500, which included installing new technology as well as a cosmetic update.

Fastenal's donation will also be utilized for student professional sales development and competition travel.

The event, which is open to the public, will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on the first floor of the Business Administration Building.
