By: Highjackers Restaurant "We owe our 15 years of success to our patrons and friends," said Lisa. "We wanted to show our appreciation to everyone that supports our restaurant, and the community causes we ask them to support like the recent surgery to help Avery Bishop walk," she added. Avery Bishop is a 6-year-old Flagler County resident that needed a surgical procedure called selective dorsal rhizotomy to help her walk. The surgery was $35,000, and the Bishops' insurance denied to pay for it because it's out of state, in St. Louis, Missouri. Co-owner of Highjackers Gail Holt has been a family friend of the Bishops for many years. When she heard about the need, she knew she had to step in and help. Highjackers helped, the money was raised, and Avery had surgery last month and is undergoing physical therapy and on her way to walking. The restaurant tries to incorporate charity work into all of its major events. They have raised thousands for the American Red Cross, Hospice, families in need, and more. They have raised an estimated $75,000 for various causes over the past 15 years. Highjackers anniversary specials kick off on August 22nd. The 22nd through the 28th, the first 14 customers will receive a HighJackers $3 bill and the lucky 15th customer will receive a mystery prize (such as gift card or retail item). Each night, one lucky table will be picked at random to have their entire dinner paid for by Highjackers. Other specials during the week range from drink specials, buy one get one free specials, and specially priced menu items. Anniversary entertainment includes the band Transfers Duo will perform on Friday the 26th from 7pm to 11am. Highjackers Restaurant is located at 202 Airport Road in Palm Coast at the Flagler County Airport. About Highjackers Restaurant has a South Pacific decor with a splash of aviation history, all aimed at creating the feeling that one has had a change in latitude (and of course attitude) upon arriving. These are the images that Gail Hold and Ted Bancroft had when the concept of "High Jackers" came into being on August 17, 2001. With the opening of the restaurant, they aspired to offer patrons a place to come for friendly service, great food, and an atmosphere that entices you to step away, relax, and enjoy. Their goal was to carry the high quality and excellent reputation of the similarly named "sister" location, High Tides at Snack Jack in Flagler Beach, into the new establishment. The restaurant is located at the Flagler County Airport, which served as a base for Navy planes during World War II. End
