| ![]() When Your Calling is Your BusinessBy: Quality of Life Care, LLC The 'death positive' movement, which we in the hospice field have been a part of all along, is really taking root outside of mainstream healthcare. People who have been affected by the gaps in health care and death care, who have first hand experience and beautiful skills to share are creating amazing services. End of life doulas, home funeral guides, bedside singers, living wake ceremonialists, celebrants, caregivers specializing in end of life--we are responding to the call of consumers and our own hearts. It is a perfect blend of wanting to give and need. Now, how do we finance this? How do the workers get paid? Many amazing nonprofits have closed due to lack of finances to fund great programs; people are drained of financial resources at the end of life sometimes; insurance companies are unlikely to help pay for 'uncredentialed' practitioners regardless of how beneficial their presence and how much money they save everyone. So presently in 2016, these services are volunteered or someone is paying for them directly (private pay model). Every doula I know will slide their fee and barter if they do charge for their personal services. Today's show I'm speaking with Janice Underwood who is a business coach who is spiritually based. I asked her to talk to the multitudes of end of life practitioners who have a private practice or who are finally going to take the leap and make their vision a reality. Most of the obstacles to doing this are inside ourselves. I don't think we are surprised to hear that. Blending spirituality with practical issues is always one of my favorite topics to explore. Join us in this very engaging conversation! today's podcast: http://journeypodcast.com/ Janice Underwood Bio: Janis has always had a passion for systems, business, and helping people succeed. Her background in engineering has blended nicely with various modalities including NLP, Shamanism, Spiritual Healing and Hypnosis. After 20 years of owning and coaching technical organizations and small businesses on productivity and profitability, she's learned what works and what doesn't work for holistic, healing and spiritual arts practitioners. Merging her soul-based work with business best practices helped her build her own psychic surgery business. Wanting others to have the same success, she created Soul Biz Startup; a body of work that helps people creates moneymaking businesses while honoring soul-based work.
