Every one fears, period. Be it the fear of getting rejected, fear of making a choice, or the fear of just stepping out of our comfort zone, fear is what storms through and rattles our peace of mind. Fear, apart from it seeping through, it also brings in despair, loss, grief, and pain. It is how we stand against them and keep venturing in our journey that proves the strength of our spirit. One such book that deals with fear and pain and the overcoming of them is the one titled Vazhitharakal. Written by Pearke Chenam, the book is in Malayalam and is published by Notion Press. It is now available to readers all over the world.

The author has spun a gripping tale around the life of Aravindan, attractive in personality and friendly in nature. The story begins with Aravindan arriving at a hermitage in a region surrounded by hills and lakes. He arrives there as a helper to a Swami ji, who is organizing a camp for artists there. His friendly nature and great potential in spirituality makes him instantly likeable. Amidst the flora and fauna of the region, Aravindan sits in solitude at night and starts reminiscing about his journey until there. He recollects the instances from his life and how he got there. He is taken back to the days he was in school, learning about social movements, and of the days he walked like the king of the world.

He then thinks of how some disunity among his family members restricted him from studying beyond high school and how he had to find a job to continue his sustenance. His work gives him a chance to study at a nearby district but a strong sense of fear again stops him from taking up studying. In turn of events, he again comes back to his home to join college for graduation but is again hit by the fear. At that point, he decides to outgrow the fear and sets out to travel. PearkeChenam, fifty two, born and brought up at the village of Chenam, in the city of Thrissur. He studied at Calicut University and later went to Saudi Arabia to seek his career.  Since he is a social activist and an environmentalist, he could not stick out in Arabia to make mere money.  He came back to Kerala after four years of service there, settled in Wayanad, tribal district in Kerala, as a social activist. By these experiences he began to write as an author in the form of stories and novels. Three collections of stories and a novel have already been published.  Pearke Chenam lives at Nedupuzha  in Thrissur with his wife, Vanitha, and daughter, Analakrishna.
