By: European Union The festival will be hosted in Ahmedabad across two venues–Alliance Francaise d'Ahmedabad & British Council Ahmedabad from 4th August to 14th2016. In its 21st edition, the festival features 24 exceptional new and award winning European films from Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom.This year the festival will screen movies from varied genres ranging from the comedy of the absurd to gripping drama, unexpected romance and heart-stopping action. Speaking about the success of the European Union Film Festival in India, H.E. Mr. Tomasz Kozlowski, Ambassador of the European Union, said: "Films have a universal appeal. The European Union Film Festival has won a special place in the Indian film calendar and in the hearts of viewers by showcasing the wry, the unexpected, the beautiful and even the tragic events of ordinary lives in unfamiliar settings." Mr. Pavan Bakeri, President- Alliance Française d' Ahmedabad said "The Alliance Française d' Ahmedabad is very happy to collaborate with The European Union and The British Council to bring the 21st edition of the European Union Film Festival to Ahmedabad. The outstanding films which are part ofthis festival will undoubtedly remain with the viewers long after they are screened. The EU film festival 2016 brings to Ahmedabad a selection of some of the finest and most riveting films coming out of Europe today. Highlights from the festival include the stories of a ten year old abandoned boy 'Jack' who picks up his six-year-old brother and finds his way to life on his own; a great soldier of Rome who is despised by his own people and forced to turn to his enemy to find acceptance and an out-of-work illusionist who has a life-changing experience when he meets a young woman in Scotland. Inaugural Movie - L'illusionniste L'illusionniste is an animated film from France directed by Sylvain Chomet. This film revolves around a plot of a French illusionist finds himself out of work and travels to Scotland, where he meets a young woman. Their ensuing adventure changes both their lives forever. This film is produced by Pathé International and Django Films in 2011. This film also has been nominated for fewawards like: • Best film European Film Awards, 2010 • Nominated at the 68th Golden Globe Awards for Best Animated Feature Film • César Award for Best Animated Feature, 2011 • Nominated for Best Animated Feature Film in the 83rdAcademy Awards Entry at both venues will be on a first come, first served basis.
