Deep Well Services' Snubbing Unit 10 is latest innovation for Pittsburgh oilfield service company

PITTSBURGH - July 29, 2016 - PRLog -- Deep Well Services' Snubbing Unit 10 will feature a compact and mobile 15K unit that is the first of its kind in the Marcellus and Utica basin.

    "Most people think of 15K snubbing units as these massive plus-10 truck load rigs," said Matt Tourigny, operations quality manager at DWS, a Pittsburgh-based oilfield service company. "This Generation 3 snubbing unit has a far smaller footprint than many of its 15K predecessors and requires only one pick off the transport trailer to fully rig up onto a BOP (Blowout Preventer) stack or wellhead."

    "Our full package, including power pack, support equipment, anchor blocks, gin pole, catwalk and pipe racks, is able to arrive on a work site via five loads," he continued. "The traditional 15K snubbing units can have mobilization load counts of over 10 trucks or trailers. This smaller design also typically facilitates the process of successfully applying for state road permits and bonds."

    The 285K, 4-post unit features a 4-slip system design, with two traveling and two stationary slips. The integrated hydraulic gallery produces rotation without removal of slip hoses, and the three-motor package has a maximum torque output of 10,000 foot-pounds and 120 RPM.

    The unit also features the Rig Smart Drilling DAS package, which provides a digital/downloadable recording of parameters during drilling operations with the ability to view "real time" from the ground or headquarters offices.

    "Like all DWS 285k standalones, the new 15K Snub 10 unit has been designed to include the very efficient one pick 'well to well' rig over capabilities, which greatly reduces costs on multi well pads," Tourigny said.

    Deep Well Services continues to be an industry leader with state-of-the-art equipment, a highly-skilled workforce and excellent safety record.

    Snubbing Unit 10 is only the latest example of Deep Well Services' ongoing investment in equipment and technology.

    Snubbing Unit 9, a 285K lift-force and 142K snub force capability unit joined the fleet on April 30. DWS' 10K, 285 standalone snubbing unit and 112-foot, 265,000-pull service rig were added in February 2015.

    Last year, DWS also invested in a snubbing unit simulator to improve preparedness, safety and education regarding the benefits of snubbing. The simulator has enabled DWS to effectively train workers and also has been used to introduce the public to snubbing.

     "DWS has a proven record when it comes to its equipment, people and safety," Tourigny said. "This brand-new, state-of-the-art Snubbing Unit 10 is the first of its kind in the entire Marcellus and Utica basin."
