-- Award-winning filmmaker Gregory Blair has wrapped IT AIN'T ALL BLACK AND WHITE…UNLESS IT IS— a comical look at the trappings of film noir…and film in general. The short is meant to be a companion piece for Blair's horror/comedy feature GARDEN PARTY MASSACRE which is in the final throes of post-production. True to the original genre, IT AIN'T ALL BLACK AND WHITE…UNLESS IT IS includes a femme fatale, a detective and a healthy helping of moody, brooding voiceover.
"I wanted to do something fun and whimsical," Blair says. "Something that could stand on its own, but also work to set the tone for the gleeful silliness that I hope 'Garden Party Massacre' offers." With blatant anachronisms and self-referential snark layered onto the traditional monochromatic mystery, IT AIN'T ALL BLACK AND WHITE…UNLESS IT IS aims to be both a wry poke in the eye as well as a loving valentine to the noir catalogue.
Blair enlisted GARDEN PARTY MASSACRE camera and sound talent (Nate Cornett and Robben Fenderson, respectively)
to capture DEADLY REVISIONS actor Mikhail Blokh in the lead role. "Working with people you know is both prudent and comforting, "Blair said. "So it's a win on several levels." Valerie Baggs Ross makes her photo film debut as the obligatory missing girl and Blair, himself, pops in for a Hitchcock cameo.
As filmmaker, Blair has been honored with several awards--including the L.A. Movie Award of "Best Narrative Feature" and the Claw Award of "Best Feature Film Screenplay" for DEADLY REVISIONS as well as BEST SCREENPLAY in the FANtastic Horror Film Festival's screenplay competition for GARDEN PARTY MASSACRE—all of which bode well for IT AIN'T ALL BLACK AND WHITE…UNLESS IT IS. Currently in post-produciton, the film is expected to begin the festival rounds in the coming months.
