JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - July 22, 2016 - PRLog -- The American Cancer Society will host a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer kickoff celebration and networking event on August 11, 2016 at Embassy Suites to share details about its upcoming fundraising walk.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a noncompetitive, inspirational event that raises awareness and funds to end breast cancer and provide hope to ensure no one faces breast cancer alone. Last year, 10,000walkers inJacksonvillehelped toraise more than $317,000.This kickoff will provide corporate and community members the opportunity to learn how to get involved in the Jacksonville walk slated for October 22, 2016 at Hemming Park. "While in previous years the event has been focused on educating and engaging our attendees as a group, this kickoff event will alsofeature a networking social hour before the formal program. This will give the community a chance to engage with our committee, build connections with like minds and find resources that will continue our mission.

Funds raised through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks enable the American Cancer Society to invest in groundbreaking research; provide free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by breast cancer; and help people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it's most treatable. The kickoff event is not only about raising funds and networking, but also a chance to celebrate with our survivors. Our theme this year will be creating more birthdays. Our goal with our kickoff event is to show our community how their efforts will help us achieve that.

"As we join with others in the Making Strides walk, we celebrate breast cancer survivors, pay tribute to loved ones lost, and raise funds to move us one step closer to a world free from the pain and suffering caused by breast cancer," said Allison Gubitz, American Cancer Society Community Manager. "From research to education, prevention to diagnosis, and treatment to recovery, we provide support to everyone impacted by breast cancer."

The Kick Off Celebration is a networking opportunity as well as an opportunity to learn how you can make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. The event will feature speakers such as our event chair, Elana Schrader; Florida Blue's Chief Medical Officer, as well as our ACS CAN Chair. The networking social Hour will be from 5:30-6:30 pm. The program will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. Music will be provided by DJ Make Tracks Rock.
