Follow on Google News | Film with Award Winning Director Daniel Karslake in Mount DoraMulti Award winning filmmaker Daniel Karslake will be in Mount Dora, FL to speak after a showing of his controversial Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize nominated documentary film and discuss his follow up movie.
By: Visit Mount Dora The original documentary film follows five families with openly gay sons or daughters and the affect of homophobia in their ultra conservative religious environments. The multi award winning director also interviews a number of religious leaders in the film including retired Anglican bishop Desmond Tutu. Karslake's film was nominated for the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and won numerous awards including the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary which is offered to the best LGBT-related film released for major distribution. Entertainment Weekly named it "One of the five documentaries that changed the world." Karslake, who now lives in Berlin, Germany will appear in Mount Dora to talk about where the subjects from the original film are today and discuss his highly anticipated sequel, "For We Know Not What We Do." which will tackle today's LGBT issues, including the civil rights struggle of transgender people. Mr. Karslake was the Emmy-nominated producer of the "In the Life" television series on PBS . He also produced the film "Every Three Seconds," which profiles five ordinary people from countries around the world who have found remarkable, yet simple, ways to make a difference in combatting hunger and extreme poverty. The Mount Dora event will include a wine reception with Mr. Karslake, music, a silent auction of art and memorabilia, and a raffle.
