Blue Ridge Wildlife Center to Hold a Very Special Baby Shower on June 12

MILLWOOD, Va. - June 3, 2016 - PRLog -- The Blue Ridge Wildlife Center-one of the largest wildlife rescue veterinarian hospitals in the Mid-Atlantic-will hold a baby shower for its many wildlife babies on June 12 from noon to 3 p.m. at Long Branch Historic House and Farm (830 Long Branch Lane, Boyce, Va. 22620).  Attendees are asked to bring gifts for the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center's babies.

"This is baby season for us.  The time when orphaned wildlife babies-everything from owls to rabbits and foxes-are brought in to our center for help," explained BRWC Executive Director David Bancroft. "We anticipate that we'll take in more than 1,000 orphaned wildlife babies this summer."   BRWC needs a lengthy list of items including trash bags, Rubbermaid containers, bleach, duct tape, batteries, hoses, bird seed, specific types of baby food as well as many other items.  To see the full list, go to www.blueridgewildlifectr.org/Baby%20Shower.html.

Bancroft cautions those who find orphaned baby wildlife to be careful about rescuing them too quickly. "Some babies are simply left for a time by their parents who then return to care for them," he stated.  "If the animals are uninjured, it's important not to act too hastily because the babies are usually much better off having their parents care for them."  Baby bird fledglings will often fall from their nests a day or two prior to being fully able to fly and the parents will continue to feed them and care for them.  Rabbit mothers will often return to bring roaming rabbit babies back to the nest.

The BRWC Baby Shower will have BRWC staff along with several of the organization's wildlife ambassadors (education animals) on hand to greet attendees.  There will be activities for all ages including face painting, a scavenger hunt, educational presentations, a silent auction and a raffle.

Long Branch Historic House and Farm once again serves as host of the event and offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in all of Virginia.  Attendees will be able to stroll the gardens, bring a picnic or buy lunch on site from Boyd's Nest Restaurant.  It's a fun afternoon for a great cause and has become an important event for the wildlife center.

There is no charge to attend and attendees are asked to bring a gift from the list of needed items.
