SC Teachers Get a Break on Infertility Costs

State insurance covers up to 70% of infertility costs in SC for teachers. Dr. Singleton and The Fertility Center of Charleston are now offering FREE consults for teachers in June.

CHARLESTON, S.C. - June 1, 2016 - PRLog -- As a teacher being around children and preparing them for the future is the sole purpose for choosing this profession. This same rewarding perk can also be painful to those struggling with infertility. One Charleston County School District (CCSD) teacher/instructor explains, "As a teacher you are around children all day long. You love kids, but they can be a constant reminder that you haven't been able to start your own family."
Luckily, SC teachers get a break when it comes to the cost of infertility, if they are enrolled in the BC/BS State Employee plan. This plans covers 70% of fertility costs, which translates into huge saving on a teacher's salary. Because of this, several teachers from CCSD have become patients at The Fertility Center of Charleston.   The Fertility Center of Charleston, Dr. Stephanie Singleton and her staff compassionately guide each patient to parenthood using the latest advanced reproductive technologies including IVF. The Fertility Center of Charleston has locations in Mt. Pleasant (http://www.fertilitycharleston.com/contact-us/mt-pleasant/) & Savannah (http://www.fertilitycharleston.com/contact-us/savannah/).  One patient states, "One of the perks of being a teacher is the benefits. I went to the Fertility Center of Charleston and the first IVF cycle was so affordable. The out of pocket costs was not as scary as I thought it would be." For example, out of pocket costs for IVF for a teacher in SC would be around $4,000, not including all medications. This was a welcomed surprise for a Charleston middle school teacher. She states, "A lot of us teachers sign up for benefits but we don't really study them until we need to use them. I have had 6 or 7 teacher friends that I have referred to The Fertility Center of Charleston. When I tell them that the cost is not as bad out of pocket as they may think and that Dr. Singleton's staff will help them through the filing process, they are excited and surprised for sure."
Dr. Singleton and The Fertility Center of Charleston are now offering FREE consults for teachers in June. This will give teachers the summer months to begin the fertility process if needed before the 2016 school bell rings. http://www.fertilitycharleston.com/...
