Three Bear Creek Seniors Achieve Eagle Scout Rank

REDMOND, Wash. - May 11, 2016 - PRLog -- In April three Bear Creek seniors and members of Boy Scout Troop 575 were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor ceremony held at First Baptist Church in Redmond.

Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Only four percent of Boy Scouts are granted this rank after a lengthy review process. One of the rank requirements is to plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or the scout's community. (The project must benefit an organization other than the Boy Scouts of America.)

John Lee directed a group of scouts to reinforce part of a trail at Evans Creek Preserve with a turnpike which prevents trail erosion. The team built a log frame turnpike with a filling of rocks and packed dirt wrapped in tarp.

Micah Tardy's project benefited the Matt Talbot Center in Seattle. Micah planned over the course of nine months and then coordinated a team to take out dilapidated food preparation cabinets, drawers, and counter tops in one day. The next day, with his crew of eight scouts, schoolmates, and leaders, the group installed new cabinets with drawers and a counter top in this kitchen. Each Sunday a worship service is held, and attendees in need of healing, hope, and restoration receive a breakfast meal prepared and served from this kitchen.

Kevin Zhou built shelving at Timberlake Church in Redmond where Troop 575 meets regularly. Timberlake Church has been rapidly growing over the last few years and requires a vast amount of storage space to maximize efficiency throughout the year. Kevin's project involved reclaiming the church's storage room at their Redmond/Sammamish campus. Over two days, he led a team of scouts to build shelves, clean out the storage room, bolt the shelves in, and then reorganize the stored contents in the room.
