Miss California Latina Names Official State Director

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - April 5, 2016 - PRLog -- The Miss California Latina Organization is proud to announce, effective April 5th, the Miss California Latina pageant will come under the directorship of Lurdes Medina, owner of Bella Sol The Salon in Pasadena.

"As Interim State Director, my goal at Miss California Latina was to guide the organization through the transition while continuing the organization's mission," said outgoing Interim State Director Cindy Salaues, who was appointed in February of this year. "Based my own experience with Ms. Medina, I could not be more excited and confident in the organization's future under her leadership."

With over ten years of experience in the beauty industry, Medina is a huge advocate for the advancement of women. Her beliefs are similar to the mission of Miss California Latina by providing a platform for young Latina women to reveal their accomplishments and goals, practice their public speaking abilities, give back to the community and demonstrate their inner and outer beauty.

As the first Latina to own a franchise of Hollywood Tans over ten years, Medina successfully established herself and built a reputation as one of the best in the industry. She is known for her airbrushing technique and for redefining the art of spray tanning.

Serving a variety of nonprofit organizations in her community, Medina is a Donate Life ambassador and has been a licensed foster mom with the organization Optimist Youth Home & Family Services providing a temporary home for special needs children placed in foster care. Medina is also a board member for the YWCA organization working towards eliminating racism and empowering women.

In 2015 and 2016, The Los Angeles Business Journal and the Latino Business Association recognized Medina and Bella Sol The Salon, as one of the businesses who are setting the example for excellence through the Los Angeles county. In addition, she has been a nominee for the National Latina Business Women Association-LA Awards for Women In Excellence. Medina was also selected to participate in the 2016 USC Latina Global Executive Leadership and Entrepreneur Program.

"I am honored to be appointed this great responsibility and be in this new leadership role," said Medina who was announced as city director of Miss Pasadena in early February. "I plan to assist in the the search for the next Miss Pasadena Latina through a city wide castings, while leading the Miss California Latina organization in growth."

The city of Pasadena has a great history with the Miss California Latina organization. For two consecutive years Pasadena was host for the state competition. In 2012 the competition was held at the Pasadena Convention Center and 2013 at the Westin Hotel Pasadena, both years the Westin Hotel Pasadena hosted the candidates. In 2015 Melissa Santos of Pasadena took home the state title of Miss California Latina representing the city of Pasadena. She was crowned the state title at the Sunrider Convention Hall on Sunday, November 22nd in Torrance, CA.
