Days for Girls International takes the Stage at United Nations Commission on Status of Women & Girls

NEW YORK - March 16, 2016 - PRLog -- Speaking on the status of women worldwide, Days for Girls International will bring its message of menstrual management to the United Nations. As part of the sixtieth session, the Commission will focus on women's empowerment and its link to sustainable development. Celeste Mergens, Founder and CEO of Days for Girls International, will specifically address the price of shame placed on young girls and women regarding their bodies and menstruation.

"To have any girl, woman or community lose days of dignity, health and opportunity to something tied to half of the population's basic biology is not just a shame, it is a travesty," Mergens says.

Girls who are dignified and unashamed in their bodies are able to reach their full potential. In providing sustainable hygiene kits to women and girls, along with education and enterprise, Days for Girls dispels the stigmas and shame surrounding menstruation for individuals and the surrounding community.

Society tells women and girls to be comfortable in their own skin, yet shames how their natural bodies work. Considering it has been proven how essential women are to global development, the world cannot afford to have them feeling shameful about their bodies.
