New VP of Development and Communications to Join LA BioMed

Love Collins III Brings more than 35 Years of Fundraising and Leadership Experience to the Institute

LOS ANGELES - Feb. 16, 2016 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES (Feb. 16, 2016) – Bringing a wealth of fundraising and management expertise, Love Collins III will be joining the leadership team at Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute (LA BioMed) as its new vice president of development and communications on May 2.

Collins has more than 35 years of experience in management, development and strategic planning, and he currently serves as the vice present—development, communications and marketing at another independent research institute, Van Andel Research Institute, in Grand Rapids, MI, a position he’s held for the last five years.

“At LA BioMed, we feel very fortunate to have attracted a nationally recognized fundraiser who is responsible for raising hundreds of millions of dollars in private support,” said David I. Meyer, PhD, LA BioMed president and CEO. “We conducted a national search, and we couldn’t be happier with the choice we made. We look forward to working with LC3, as he likes to be called, to build and grow support for LA BioMed and its mission of transforming today’s research into tomorrow’s cures.”

Prior to his position at Van Andel, Collins held senior development and operational leadership positions at Benedict College, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Florida A&M University and Foundation, Howard University Hospital, Dillard University, BellSouth Corporation and the1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA.

Collins has published numerous articles and has taught many classes on fundraising leadership, techniques and skills for success.  He is also past president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals—Columbia, SC Chapter, where he was recognized as the Outstanding Fundraising Professional for 2009.

Collins is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a BS degree in engineering. He received an honorable discharge after serving five years in the U.S. Army’s Infantry Branch as an airborne officer.

Collins holds an MBA degree in finance from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. He is a graduate of Harvard University’s IEM program for senior level academic officers and a fellow of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. In addition, he has a management certification from the Wharton Business School and an AMA certification in strategic planning.  Having spent his formative years in Chatsworth, CA, he is also a product of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
