Why and How to Migrate Outlook to Lotus Notes?

It is an application suite developed by IBM that includes e-mail, database, web server, address book, programming, calendaring and scheduling. On the other hand, Outlook is a part of MS office which splits these functionalities into separate applications.

Lotus Notes stores its entire database in NSF format while Outlook stores all its data in PST format.

Methods to Migrate Outlook to Lotus Notes

There are two methods to migrate your personal data from Outlook to Lotus Notes.

Use Upgrade.exe:  It is a free utility, which comes with Lotus Notes package which can be deployed for migrating Outlook PST files to Lotus Notes. While installing the Lotus Notes on your system; it provides an option for install migration tool. It cannot be used if you didn’t install the migration tool at the time of installation of Lotus Notes. In such case you need to do the installation again on your system.

Limitation of Lotus Notes upgrade.exe:

·         This utility cannot transfer the data on Domino server but the data will be migrated to Local work station.

·         Another limitation of this utility is that it cannot be used to transfer large sized PST files to NSF file. It can be used only for migrating PST files that are smaller than 5 GB.

You can use a third party Software if you PST file size is above 5GB.

Use a Third Party Converter Tool: You can use Outlook to Notes Converter, which will convert your PST files into NSF format. It is recommended as one of the best tool for conversion of PST to NSF. It will convert all your MS Outlook attributes including email, contacts, task, calendar etc. and  also provides an option for filtration of data according to date. However, before using this tool be sure that Lotus Notes and Outlook should be installed and configured properly in your system and you must know the password of your PST if your PST is password protected.
