Previous European Standard on Outdoor Furniture Replaced

SHANGHAI - Jan. 7, 2016 - PRLog -- Revised Standard Regards Safety Requirements

European standard EN 581-2:2009 Outdoor furniture – mechanical safety requirements and test methods for seating has been superseded by EN 581-2:2015.

Regulations on Loungers and Other Outdoor Seating Affected

The main changes in the revised standard are:

- A modification to the normative reference has been made: EN 1728:2000 has been amended to EN 1728:2012.

- The definition of lounger has been expanded: lounger – seating intended for reclined posture with at least one backrest with a ‘teta angle’ between 0° and 45° and a leg rest which is integral part of the product and which is intended to support the full body weight of a user.

- New test requirements for loungers. The requirements for loungers have been moved from the annex and are now contained in the standard. Table 1 contains the test sequence and test parameters for loungers.

- Table 2 contains the test sequence and test parameters for other seating.

- Loungers equipped with wheels, but not intended to be lifted and moved with a person in it shall be permanently marked with a pictogram. The smallest dimension of the pictogram shall not be less than 25 mm.

Conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn by May 2016 at the latest.
