Stepinac High School's Successful Coat Drive in Record Warm Fall Pays Off in Delayed Start to Winter

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Jan. 5, 2016 - PRLog -- More than six weeks ago when temperatures were unseasonably warm, Archbishop Stepinac High School students mobilized to donate more than 100 coats and other warm winter apparel to support The Children’s Collective’s 25th Annual Coat Drive. The efforts of the students surpassed the prior year's contributions when Stepinac participated in its first drive for the non-profit which helps the thousands of homeless children in New York City who sleep in shelters every night.

Paul Carty, Stepinac Principal, that the students completely filled The Children's Collective's SUV --rear, rear seats and front passenger seat--with bags of donated items. "A lot of pushing in of the bags was required in order to close the car's doors," he recalled.

Although for several weeks it looked like the harsh realities of winter would be indefinitely postponed, the plight of the homeless--whose numbers continue to climb at an alarming rate--returned front and center in the public's mind when the temperatures nose dived yesterday. And although there will be a brief warm-up in daytime temperatures this week, the long range forecast calls for cold weather pattern starting early next week.

Rev. Thomas Collins, Stepinac President, said that the school has long been recognized by community charitable organizations for the "remarkable generosity and often record-breaking donations of its students, especially around the holidays. We are very proud of what our students accomplished for The Children's Collective to help bring some warmth to those in need this winter."
