CHICAGO - Nov. 30, 2015 - PRLog -- Join NEIU students, administrators, faculty, unions, and staff on Thursday, December 3 for a Winterfest protesting Illinois' failure to fund higher education. The event will be held at 3 pm in the Golden Eagles Room on the Bryn Mawr campus of Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago.

Because of the ongoing budgetary standoff in Illinois, Governor Rauner has refused to fund state universities and Monetary Award Program (MAP) grants, which help support the education of 130,000+ Illinois students. Postcards protesting this attack on higher education will be provided to Winterfest participants, and the University Professionals of Illinois, Local 4100, will deliver these postcards directly to state officials and to Gov. Rauner.

Winterfest will also celebrate the importance of state-funded universities; snacks and music will be provided as well as an open mike so participants can speak out about the state's failure to fund higher education, the value of state universities, and more.

Free and open to the public, all are invited, including the press, state officials, students attending state universities, and interested members of the public.
